What The Professionals Say

Flexibility is Key

Yep, BrewPress is flexible! The secret to BrewPress’ ingenious design is it’s flexible, yet sturdy mid-section (the orange bit).

As the name suggests, there really are just two aspects to it – Brewing and Pressing (BrewPress) – making it a compression/infusion style brew.

In it’s open position BrewPress can contain 300ml of water. Add your ground coffee, stir and brew. Compress it to extract the perfect cup of coffee.

Simple!

The Ultimate Coffee Companion

By design, BrewPress is compact, portable and self contained, making it the ideal coffee companion for any occassion.

Closed, it’s is just 6cm tall (under 2.5 inches)!

Open the top lid and BrewPress contains everything you need to brew the perfect cup on the go (except water, of course – you’ll have to carry that separately).

A coffee scoop/stirrer, container for your ground coffee and space for filter papers (more on what’s in the box below), BrewPress’ design is made for convenience!

Fill it with ground coffee

Add your hot water

Close it and brew (90 secs.)

Invert & slowly press

How Does BrewPress Work?

With BrewPress, great coffee is as easy as brewing and pressing!
Below are the expanded steps, you know... Just so you know

Step 1

Remove the top lid and remove the coffee container, scoop, and filters and place the lid back on

Step 2

Unscrew the filter holder and pop open your BrewPress. Place your inverted BrewPress on your preparation surface

Step 3

Measure 12g of ground coffee (approx two heaped scoops) and add the coffee into your BrewPress

Step 4

Slowly pour 250ml of off-the-boil/boiling water into your BrewPress

Step 5

Stir with the back of your measuring scoop (or teaspoon) making sure all the coffee comes into contact with the water. Brew for 90 seconds

Step 6

Place filter paper into the filter holder and screw it tightly back onto your BrewPress

Step 7

Invert your BrewPress onto your mug and wait 15-30 seconds for the ground coffee to settle

Step 8

Slowly compress downwards (15 to 30 seconds), applying even compression until fully compressed (listen out for the hiss)

Please note: This is our recommended recipe for brewing one cup of filter coffee.

Frequently Asked Questions

BrewPress is made from 100% food grade high quality polypropylene and tear resistant TPE , and is absolutely safe to use. Our filter papers are recyclable and compostable.

BrewPress was invented, designed, and is manufactured in Bloemfontein, South Africa by us. Who are we? We are +27Innovations – the same company behind BrewSpoon. We are passionate about coffee, product design, engineering, and manufacturing in South Africa.

Our first limited run is kept small to keep costs down and test the market (so to speak – we know we have a winning product). This first run is self-funded and sales from this first run will help us scale to high-production capacity. The first 150 units we are offering at R549, regular pricing will be R699.

Coffee made with BrewPress is an espresso-style brew using a mix of infusion (immersing coffee in water) and compression (using pressure to extract the coffee). Using filter papers means there is zero sediment only a brew filled with maximum flavour and texture.

Yes, but like all the various methods of brewing coffee, BrewPress requires a specific grind type. Coffee beans ground for filter coffee or slightly finer work the best. Very fine grinds used for espresso machines is not recommended but can be used if that is all you have. Very finely ground coffee requires more pressure and if used in BrewPress will cause compression to be much harder, resulting in poorly extracted coffee (less flavour).

For a single cup of coffee, we recommend two level scoops of ground coffee and 250ml of water, and for two cups, three level scoops of ground coffee and 300ml of water – topping up your mug(s) or cup(s) with hot water and milk as required.

This is subjective. You can extract your coffee immediately after stirring or you can wait, it really is up to you. And, we encourage you to play with recipes and brewing times until you find the sweet spot suited to your palette. As long-time testers and users, we recommended brewing the coffee for 60 seconds before extracting.

No! Does boiling water go cold in 90 seconds? Of course not, and neither will your coffee as it sits and brews for a minute. Generally, brewing good coffee requires a water temperature of between 90 – 96°C.

For all deliveries, we make use of uAfrica. We do not ship on Saturdays or Sundays. 99.9% of our orders are delivered to our customers within 3 working days, however, sometimes orders take a little longer to be delivered, especially if the address is located in an outlying area. When your order is shipped you will receive the neccessary tracking information.

*NB For festive season shpping we strive to keep to our 3 day shipping period but cannot guarantee shipping times due to high seasonal volumes.

When we start high production manufacturing, we will be able accept wholesale orders. Currently we can’t accept wholesale orders.
